After Installation – Floor Coverings

It is strongly recommended to apply a liquid levelling screed before installing any floor surface over the Retro Therma Underfloor Heating (UFH) system to ensure optimal performance and stability. While engineered wood flooring can technically be installed without the use of a liquid levelling screed, this approach is not advised for the best long-term results.

Flooring Type Requirements:

Carpet: A liquid levelling screed is essential for carpet installation over the Retro Therma UFH system. Additionally, it is important to ensure that the carpet has a TOG rating no higher than 2.5 TOG to facilitate efficient heat transfer.

Engineered Wood: Although the use of a liquid levelling screed is not mandatory for engineered wood flooring, it is highly recommended to enhance performance and ensure a secure, level base for installation. To protect the engineered wood from excessive heat, we advise incorporating temperature sensors in the flooring, as wood typically has a maximum temperature tolerance of 27°C.

Tiles: For tile installations, a decoupling membrane is required when applying the floor surface to the Retro Therma system. This is necessary to accommodate thermal expansion and movement, preventing potential damage or shifting.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT): A liquid levelling screed is necessary when installing LVT flooring over the Retro Therma system. Furthermore, a high-temperature adhesive should be used to secure the final floor covering. To protect the LVT from excessive heat, we advise incorporating temperature sensors in the flooring, as LVT typically has a maximum temperature tolerance of 27°C.
